IPL (Intense Pulsed Light Treatment) is a non-invasive hair removal treatment using light-based technology. Alongside permanent removal of hair, the IPL technology offers additional treatments, including reduction of age spots, sun spots, freckles, superficial capillaries, and discolouration.
An IPL treatment can also reduce facial redness and stimulate fibroblast — a natural cell produced by the body that synthesizes collagen to tighten and lift skin. Sophie’s Beauty Room makes use of IPL technology in a wide variety of treatments.
The IPL process uses a handpiece on the skin, controlled by a technician, to deliver an intense pulse of light. This light is absorbed by the designated targets in your skin, taking in the pulse of light at a high intensity for a very short time. This rapid discharge of light provides the high energy levels required for effective IPL treatments.
IPL offers an easy, painless and quick permanent hair removal method, for use on the body and face. We recommend six to eight treatments to achieve optimal results: permanent smooth skin, with only the occasional maintenance treatment.
Super Hair Reduction (SHR)
Super Hair Reduction (SHR) is a new IPL innovation for permanent hair reduction. SHR works faster, easier, and more painlessly to deliver permanent hair removal results.
SHR, offered by Sophie’s Beauty Room, offers comfortable hair reduction treatments in less than half the time of a traditional IPL session. SHR uses a gradual heating method to target each hair follicle with light, offering an experience that is comfortable, effective, and pain-free.
We recommend SHR treatments for all kinds of hair removal tasks — particularly for hair reduction in large areas, such as legs or arms, due to its quick and effective treatment speed.
SHR varies from standard IPL in that the SHR scans the treatment area with up to ten flashes of light per second, gradually heating the treatment area for painless hair removal. In comparison, IPL treatments use higher intensity light, which may cause mild discomfort.
Post-Treatment Results
When IPL treatments are used, facial hair can be expected to disappear within seven to ten days. Body hair generally takes around two to three weeks, although individual results vary based on skin type, hair coarseness, and natural growth cycle.
